Dr. Melissa Dymond
This interview is very special to me, as I am actually doing a release read for her book “Paging Dr. Hart”! While I still need to officially put my review out, I can say with the utmost confidence that it is such a good, heartwarming rom-com book. I highly recommend you go and get it!
Now, here is my exclusive interview with Dr. Melissa Dymond herself!
Kenna: Who or what inspired you to write?
Melissa: The reason I got into writing is because my mother and grandmother were both writers. I grew up with it around me. However, I watched my mother, and her writer friends struggle to get attention from the traditional publishing world. That made me turn more towards my other love, science. I ended up going to medical school and becoming a radiologist which I am passionate about. Still, my mind was always making up stories. Two years ago, I finally decided to start writing them down. I began just writing a couple of hundred words at night when my kids were asleep. Eventually, those grew into a book. It was nerve-racking, but I decided to go ahead and self-publish. I’m proud to be an indie author. I love the control it gives me to create my stories exactly how I want without compromise.
K: How do you find/make time to write?
M: I mostly write in the evening after my family has gone to bed. I also do it in the nooks and crannies of my day. Sometimes I’ll even write a chapter while I’m sitting in the car waiting for my kids to come out of school.
K: What advice would you give to a new author?
M: Advice for aspiring authors would be to start building a reader base the moment you begin to write your novel. Don’t wait until you publish to go find your readers. Start social media. Start a newsletter. Even if you’re just telling them about your work in progress, if you are diligent about it, you will have people waiting for your book by the time you’re done writing it.
K: Who are some of your favorite authors?
M: Authors that I admire are Emily Henry. I think she writes beautifully with unique ways of describing the settings of her books. I have also read every single Stephen King novel. I think he’s underrated in how he can create such unique characters.
K: What would you do if you weren’t a writer?
M: If I didn’t write and I wasn’t a doctor, I’d probably do a lot of charity and volunteering work which is actually something I already do! I believe in leaving the world a better place. I’m trying to teach my kids to be of service to others, so we often volunteer as a family. As part of that, I give 10% of the proceeds from my books to fund research that fights various diseases. For my holiday romance books, Holiday Star and Holiday Wedding, I donate to fight colon cancer. For my book, Paging Dr. Hart, I donate to a charity that funds research looking for a cure to lung cancer.
K: Any final or parting thoughts for my readers?
M: A unique thing about my books are that I offer them TWO versions. I have a spicy version with mild explicit language and sex scenes. I also offer a clean/sweet version which has no bad language and only kissing. I want all of my readers to feel comfortable.
Dr. Dymond, thank you so much for your time and your insight! I will be recommending your books for years to come. For my readers, Dr. Dymond’s books are available through Amazon and I highly suggest you go and read them! You won’t be disappointed!
